Expert Verdict
If you are in search of a light-duty multifunction printer for your home or home office, the Epson Expression Premium XP-830 printer is a good choice for either or both of those roles. This stylish, compact and 5 Epson XP-830 Ink Cartridges inkjet includes office and photo-centric features, with a good range of connectivity choices. The Epson XP-830 Ink Cartridges include pigmented black, black, yellow, magenta and cyan ink. Though this machine is better for photos than for text, it delivers good speed and pretty decent output quality. To justify its Small-In-One name, the XP-830 measures just 7.5 X15.4 X 13.3 inches (HWD) when closed, and expands to 8.1 X 23.2 X 17.5 inches with the print tray open. It has a weight of around 2-21 pounds. The printer boasts a 100-sheet main paper tray and a 20-sheet photo-paper tray that can hold up to 5/7 inch paper. There's also a one-sheet feeder in the back for specialty paper and an auto-duplexer. To make the XP-830 this compact, Epson ignored the paper capacity. Still the 100-sheet main tray is enough for a home printer.
On top of it there is a 30-page duplexing automatic document feeder that can scan two-sided documents by scanning one side and after flipping the page over it scans the other side. The front panel has a 4.3-inch touch-screen LCD from which you can perform setup and maintenance tasks, scan and copy documents, send faxes, and print from a USB thumb drive or memory card. The memory card reader and the port for a USB thumb drive are placed to the left of the main tray. All of these are handy and won’t take much time to perform a task.
This machine has a good set of both wired and wireless connection choices. It includes both USB and Ethernet connectivity. For wireless connectivity, the XP-830 Wi-fi Direct supports a direct peer-to-peer connection with a compatible device without the need for a network. Moreover, it is compatible with Google Cloud Print and allows users to scan directly to Facebook. It supports Epson Connect solutions to access, print, and scan documents, photos, emails, and web pages from a tablet, smartphone, or computer from anywhere around the world. The XP-830 also works with the Epson Creative Print app, which prints Facebook photos and creates custom cards, colouring books, stationery, and more. It is AirPrint-compatible and is also Mopria-certified. The XP-830 is built to work with the Mopria Print Service app and the built-in printing framework in Android v4.4 or later that allows android users to print documents, emails, photos, or webpages.
The XP-830's running costs, based on Epson's prices and yields of its most economical Epson XP-830 Ink Cartridges, are quite reasonable. As Epson XP-830 Ink Cartridges are set up individually, you only need to replace those Epson XP-830 Ink Cartridges that run out of ink. This is a bit on the up side for an inkjet of this price range. Coming to print quality, overall output quality is average for an inkjet. Though text quality is below par, still good enough for occasional home or business use. If you are looking to print text for documents like formal reports or resumés with which you are seeking to make a good visual impression, we would recommend not buying it. Graphics quality is not consistent, some thin, coloured lines can be there. Although colours can be well saturated, a few backgrounds can somewhat be faded. Thanks to the Epson XP-830 Ink Cartridges, Photo prints are above par. It is a versatile and capable printer.
